麻豆传媒社区 trio spend summer interning at Air Force Research Lab

麻豆传媒社区鈥檚 future scientists made discovery the theme for their summer experiences at a major laboratory. Recent graduate Micah Holston, senior Jack Smith and junior Jonathan Ridley spent the summer interning at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico, learning about national defense applications for engineering, computer science, and physics.

麻豆传媒社区 alumna to compete in international Deaflympics games in Tokyo

Tawnecia Rush 鈥�24 has worn hearing aids since she was 9 years old. In conversation, she focuses intently on the people she鈥檚 speaking with, supplementing what she hears with expert lip reading. Occasionally, she says 鈥淧ardon?鈥� when she needs a speaker to repeat what they鈥檝e said. On the basketball court, communication was always much more fluid. Since she began playing with her father and brothers as a child at the Boys and Girls Club, Rush鈥檚 hearing impairment has never hindered her. Two decades later, her abilities have earned her a spot on the USA Deaf Women鈥檚 Basketball team, which will compete in the Deaflympics in Tokyo over two weeks in November.

Yuriy Soroka was one of two KSU nursing alums honored by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution recently, receiving an AJC Nurse Excellence Award for 2025. Justin Connelly, who earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2018 and works at Piedmont Henry Hospital in McDonough, also received a Nurse Excellence Award.

When asked what propelled him to success, recent 麻豆传媒社区 graduate Micah Holston cited the influence of his professors. The same can be said for fellow graduate Brady Wilson. Andrew Behrend credited the research opportunities at 麻豆传媒社区 for making a difference in his academic pursuits. Now equipped with robust research experiences and having earned their bachelor鈥檚 degrees in May, the trio 鈥� along with recent graduates Michael Williams and Jonathan Demont 鈥� will all continue their education in competitive doctoral programs this fall.

When Astrid Garavis planned a future with a biochemistry degree from 麻豆传媒社区, she knew a career in medicine was ahead. Although her undergraduate experience provided her valuable time doing research in a laboratory, Garavis realized she could benefit from several practical skills before preparing to apply to medical school. That鈥檚 when she attended an open house and discovered certification classes offered through KSU鈥檚 Community and Professional Education (CPE).

Walking across the stage at 麻豆传媒社区鈥檚 Commencement ceremony was a remarkable moment for Sladjana Ray 鈥�24. Having earned an education specialist degree, it marked her third successful round in higher education, to strengthen her skillset as a history teacher. In the crowd were her daughter, Mima Hrnjak, a nursing student in 麻豆传媒社区鈥檚 Wellstar College of Health and Human Services, and Ray鈥檚 parents. They made the trip from their native Serbia, known as Yugoslavia when Ray migrated to the states in the 鈥�90s as a 16-year-old basketball player.

Growth fuels passion for 麻豆传媒社区 master's graduate

Isabelle Boughadou traded a life of training elite athletes for a future as a researcher in biomedical science. She earned a master鈥檚 degree in exercise science from 麻豆传媒社区, conducting award-winning research in the laboratory of professor Katherine Ingram on maternal health, a turn from her original destination conducting research in high-performance sports.

Recent 麻豆传媒社区 graduate Javier Haro recalls being struck by assistant professor Melissa Osborne鈥檚 passion for her work. In a way, he could relate. Originally a civil engineering major, Haro learned quickly he didn鈥檛 have passion for the field. He briefly dabbled in exercise science, too, before learning from Osborne about public health and the impact it could have on the world at large, especially in local communities. It was then that he found his passion.

麻豆传媒社区 to revive bathtub race tradition with new video game
April 25, 2025
For decades, the Southern Technical Institute bathtub races entertained swarms of students, alumni, and community members as engine-laden bathtubs throttled around what is now 麻豆传媒社区鈥檚 Marietta Campus. Now, nearly three decades after the last race, the tradition will be reborn as a video game created by students in the College of Computing and Software Engineering.
