Recent graduate Micah Holston, senior Jack Smith and junior Jonathan Ridley spent the summer interning at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico, learning about national defense applications for engineering, computer science, and physics.

    麻豆传媒社区 alumna to compete in international Deaflympics games in Tokyo

    Tawnecia Rush 鈥24 has worn hearing aids since she was 9 years old. In conversation, she focuses intently on the people she鈥檚 speaking with, supplementing what she hears with expert lip reading. Occasionally, she says 鈥淧ardon?鈥 when she needs a speaker to repeat what they鈥檝e said. On the basketball court, communication was always much more fluid. Since she began playing with her father and brothers as a child at the Boys and Girls Club, Rush鈥檚 hearing impairment has never hindered her. Two decades later, her abilities have earned her a spot on the USA Deaf Women鈥檚 Basketball team, which will compete in the Deaflympics in Tokyo over two weeks in November.

Justin Connelly, who earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2018 and works at Piedmont Henry Hospital in McDonough, also received a Nurse Excellence Award.

Now equipped with robust research experiences and having earned their bachelor鈥檚 degrees in May, the trio 鈥 along with recent graduates Michael Williams and Jonathan Demont 鈥 will all continue their education in competitive doctoral programs this fall.

    Walking across the stage at 麻豆传媒社区鈥檚 Commencement ceremony was a remarkable moment for Sladjana Ray 鈥24. Having earned an education specialist degree, it marked her third successful round in higher education, to strengthen her skillset as a history teacher. In the crowd were her daughter, Mima Hrnjak, a nursing student in 麻豆传媒社区鈥檚 Wellstar College of Health and Human Services, and Ray鈥檚 parents. They made the trip from their native Serbia, known as Yugoslavia when Ray migrated to the states in the 鈥90s as a 16-year-old basketball player.

He briefly dabbled in exercise science, too, before learning from Osborne about public health and the impact it could have on the world at large, especially in local communities.     For decades, the Southern Technical Institute bathtub races entertained swarms of students, alumni, and community members as engine-laden bathtubs throttled around what is now 麻豆传媒社区鈥檚 Marietta Campus. Now, nearly three decades after the last race, the tradition will be reborn as a video game created by students in the College of Computing and Software Engineering.
