Center
We offer two types of meetings with virtual and in-person availability:
Advising Appointment 鈥 a 30-minute scheduled meeting with your assigned Academic Advisor. This option is best when you are looking to plan for future semesters, review your progress toward graduation, or address advising-related holds.
We are available for scheduled advising appointments Monday-Friday: 9:00am-11:30am and 1:00pm-4:00pm
Drop-In Hours
Students can drop-in during specific hours to see the Academic Advisor that is on
duty to ask quick questions. These meetings are usually no more than 15 minutes long
and can be subject to a wait time.
We are available for the following drop-In advising hours:
Monday - Thursdays: 9 AM - 11:30 AM and 1 PM - 4 PM
Fridays: 1 PM - 4 PM
In-Person Drop-Ins:
Drop by Science Building room #204 on the 麻豆传媒社区 Campus.
Check-in at the front desk, and then sit in the waiting area. The first available
advisor will call you back when it is your turn.
Follow these instructions to join the waiting list for a virtual drop-in:
1. Login to Microsoft Teams
Download and log into Microsoft Teams (you will log in using the same log in information
as your KSU email). There is also a phone application you can download, if easier!
2. Add yourself to the CSM Advising Virtual Drop-Ins Team
When in Microsoft Teams, click the tab/icon for Teams, and it will show you any teams
you are a member of.
In the top right corner or bottom left corner, click 鈥淛oin or Create Team.鈥 Use the 鈥淛oin a team with a code鈥 box to enter the team code: 5s7o02n.
3. Sign-In to See an Advisor
When you enter the Team, you will notice a 鈥淕eneral鈥 chat page that is our sign-in sheet.
Type your major into the chat to add yourself to the waiting list. You will only need
to sign-in with one chat per visit.
If for any reason you need to leave before being helped, please reply to your own chat with 鈥淚 will come back later.鈥
4. How Will the Advisor Start My Meeting?
An advisor will send you an individual chat when you are next in line. If you do not
respond within 3 minutes, you will just need to put yourself back into the advising
queue with a new chat.

Quick Resources
Registration Overrides
Use the registration override forms listed below to help register for classes, plan
your course of study and meet graduation requirements. This page is a dedicated resource
for both advisors and students, housing various forms, links, and informational PDF's
that can assist in the advising process.
Closed Course Override Policy We recognize that certain courses are extremely popular in our college. We are constantly
trying to meet demand for our courses. But, this sometimes still means that a class
you wish to take fills up. To best utilize the systems available at KSU (waitlists),
CSM has a "No closed class override" policy. We want all students to have an equal
chance at getting into a class.
Course Substitutions
If you think a transfer credit ("T") could be a substitution for a KSU course, then
get your course description and/or a course syllabus from the other school, then email
the appropriate advisor, your KSU ID #, major, course request, course syllabus (or
course description if only justification available) from the other school. NOTE: Very
few STAT courses can be substituted from transfer credit outside of KSU.
Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology & Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology
We are looking forward to having you join our CSM community! To best assist new students
with their orientation and registration experience, please click below for step by
step instructions!
Step 1: Sign up for orientation
Start by signing up! You will register for your classes during your orientation date,
so we'd highly encourage choosing the earliest date available to you.
Step 2: Set up an appointment with your academic advisor before orientation
If we know you're going to be completing a major in CSM, we are going to be reaching out to students via orientation rosters before orientation. But, you don't have to wait for us to reach out to you! Please go ahead and schedule an appointment with your advisor!
Step 3: Math is Important
Your starting place for math might change what science courses you have available to you during your first semester at KSU. All majors in CSM require at least up to MATH 1190 Calculus I in the degree requirements.
Your High School information dictates your potential starting place.
MATH 1111 College Algebra: Anyone can start here, but you might be able to start higher! MATH 1113 Precalculus: You can start here if you have a SAT MATH score of 570 or above
(ACT MATH 23 or above) AND a high school GPA of 2.8 or above MATH 1190 Calculus I: You can start here if you have a SAT MATH score of 620 or above
(ACT MATH 26 or above) AND a high school GPA of 3.2 or above
Not happy with your Math placement based on HS information? Take ALEKS!
**Please email your academic advisor if you have questions about ALEKS or need to
get the ALEKS code**
